Can I Lose Weight Without Devoting Time to Exercise?
By Gareth Black

The quick answer to that question is a big "YES"

Many people are doing it successfully, albeit more slowly. But many more people are losing weight faster and undergoing plenty of exercise for weight loss.

Really there's nothing complicated or difficult about losing weight. It's all about setting personal goals and then attempting to achieve them. It's about the satisfaction gained from doing this - the satisfaction of not only shedding unwanted pounds, but also of reaching a personal milestone. And then setting more goals.

So how is it possible to lose weight without devoting any time to exercise?

OK, lets start at the beginning. Overweight people know the necessity to eat a low-calorie diet free from fats, salt and excessive amounts of sugar to achieve weight reduction. They also know that regular exercise speeds up and reinforces this process. By 'exercise' these people think about a walk in the park, or a jog around the block.

But for some people with a weight problem, a period in the day devoted solely to exercise isn't possible. The difficulty is not the effort involved, it's the time taken up.

Today, most people are 'time-poor'. They just cannot devote any time to a regular, daily period of exercise activity. However much they would like to take a walk or a jog, family and work pressures don't allow them the time. But there are ways in which they can get more exercise.

Whether we know it or not, we engage in exercise during the course of a day. Walking around the home or the work place constitutes 'exercise'. Every physical activity is exercise and prolonging that activity results in more exercise. So all a person has to do is think of ways in which activity can be extended.

Spend an extra ten minutes taking the dog for a walk; park the car at the shopping center as far away from the shops as possible; use the stairs instead of the elevator; get off the bus a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way; cycle to work; take a walk at lunch time; there's a million and one ways of extending a period of activity, without devoting a length of time specifically to exercising.

For people who are not 'time-poor' such as retirees or people who work from home, then lack of time may not be a constraint on their exercise activities. Such people can enjoy the time they are able to devote to exercise as well as the additional benefits, other than weight loss, that this brings. Being fit with healthy muscles goes a long way towards giving an older person a much more vigorous and rewarding life style.
